The Fundamentals of Permanent Weight Loss

The reason why most people are not very successful in weight loss is that, they are going to the wrong direction. Starting a diet for example means automatically starvation. But you can not get the results you want by starving yourself. For some it it is so hard to believe that you can actually lose weight by eating more. It is absurd you say. Let me explain. There are four fundamentals that should be part of everybody's weight loss plans.

1. Cardio Training - which could be walking, jogging, cycling, cardio machines, classes. It does not matter what kind of cardio exercises you do, as long as you are burning calories. Do what you like the most. Some folks get very confused about what cardio exercises should I do, how long should I exercises or what kind of calories should I burn. What matters at the end of the day is how much calories you burn, how you get there, is not that important.

2. Strength Training - Weight lifting, is the best form of strength training, and I recommend that every man and woman start a weight training program immediately. If you don't do strength training then you will lose muscle mass in the long term, when you diet. Do not be afraid of strength training. You can successfully train with barbells, dumbbells, or machines. If you have no idea how to do strength training, then go to your local gym and get advice from a personal trainer. Strength training is an excellent way to burn calories.

3. Nutrition- People don't need another diet to suffer and get tortured. The only way to successfully lose weight is changing your lifestyle. If you understand what to eat to lose weight or what to eat to gain muscle mass, then it gets much easier to lose weight. When you starve the fat with strict diets and you cut calories too low, it works initially, and you see that very gratifying initial drop on the scale. But what happens to everyone eventually gets to a plateau, because your body adapts, and your metabolism adjusts to the reduced food intake. Then your body automatically thinks you are starving and burns less calories.

4. Mental Training- If you give up the fight to lose weight before you even start, then you can not win. You have to set goals for yourself what you want to accomplish. Realistic goals of course. It is impossible to lose 9 pounds in 11 days in the long-term. If you are focused, know what you want and how to get there then the changes are you will make your goal whatever it is.

If you understand the these four basics, then you can fine-tune and start working on specific details. We are all different so there is no "one diet that fits all." There are different body types, different body structures, and there are different metabolic types. You have to balance yourself and find out what works best for you.

Has anyone ever told you that it takes more calories to digest an apple than the apple itself contains? If you haven't heard any of these stories yet, you will. Unfortunately, none of them are true. Sure, digesting your food does take some energy and it involves burning calories, but there's no such thing as a "digestion diet." No matter what type of food you eat, the digestion process could never use up enough calories to make any difference in your weight.

Eating late at night causes you to gain more weight than eating during the day.

Not true. The total amount and type of food you eat is what matters, not when you eat it. Many people often eat after dinner as a form of entertainment, not to satisfy hunger, so the food choices tend to be higher calorie snack foods. If food is a form of entertainment for you, the more you feel bored, the more you'll eat.

Reduced-fat and fat-free foods can help you lose weight.

Certain naturally fat-free foods, such as vegetables and fruits, can help you lose weight because you can fill up on larger quantities of these foods for fewer calories than if you choose food higher in fat. Fat-free convenience food products, however, are another story. Many of these foods contain so much added sugar or other ingredients that they contribute just as many, if not more, calories to your diet.

Quit eating! Is this the fastest and the quickest weight loss system? Quit eating and your weight will dramatically fall down on the scale and before doing any thing extra. You will see half of your former self in the mirror.

Is this true? No, not at all this is the biggest joke of epic proportions. This is a lie. The fact is that the quickest weight loss system has nothing to do with stopping to eat. The quickest weight loss system is only a myth. The truth is that there is no magical system to lose weight. You have to keep in your mind that losing weight needs a strenuous effort for a relatively longer period of time.

Actually what happens is, when you stop eating, your body thinks that a time of food crisis is coming? So the body begins to store food for that famine time in the form of fats. The result is exactly the opposite of your goal. The weight starts increasing instead of decreasing due to the accumulated fats even after stopping to eat.

This is the actual reason of frustration of most of the people following crash diet programs. They don't even know that why they are putting on weight whilst starving.

The good weight loss program however is a combination of diet and exercise. That is the calorie intake should be reduced along with the increase in the activity level to ensure that the body burns any fats that it tends to accumulate. By following this you will actually lose weight.

This is a pretty good reason that you only lose weight when you diet and exercise. If you only diet or only exercise, then you will discover that you are actually having absolute no results.

Remember that when you begin your weight loss program it is important to select that exercise plan that suits you more or you enjoy more. Try to incorporate some extra activity level in your daily routine. For example choosing the stairs instead of elevator, or cleaning house or walking a lot or whatever you enjoys more. High Fiber Foods That Curb Your Eating Habits

Foods high on fiber content are derived from plant-based sources. They do not get digested to provide nutrition and calories, but still keep us in good health.

Foods rich in fiber content are useful when it comes to monitoring and regularizing our bowel movements. They also protect us from certain diseases like colon cancer and cardiac problems. Colon cancer is avoided due to quicker movement of the carcinogens through the colon, as they bind with the fiber stuff in the intestines. The cardiac problems are kept at bay as the fiber also helps get rid of the cholesterol content in the body.

People who include lots of fiber content in their diet are proven to be relatively healthier. Fiber foods themselves are considered to be healthy, though the exact reason for the same has not popped out of research yet. It has also been repeatedly observed that fiber foods are best at helping one remain slim and fit.

The stomach becomes full quicker in a diet comprising of high fiber foods. This therefore reduces our craving to a great extent. Digestion is slower and thus we remain full for long. This is clearly exhibited in the fact that one serving of whole grain bread is more filling than two servings of white bread. Refining of grains like white rice (used in the manufacture of white bread and sugar-based cereals) are drained of most nutrients and fiber-content. They are sometimes as quick as sugar in increasing our blood sugar levels sharply. This may sometimes cause the insulin levels to sky rocket. This forces the body to store the excess energy, than burn it.

The concern with increased insulin is not its effect of increasing the body storage of fat, but the conversion of anything we eat and don't burn up into fat, we were so insistent on keeping away from!

A greater cause of concern is the tendency of insulin levels to drop suddenly after its spike. This creates a vacuum, which will be filled by hunger and a state of energy-black-out. We tend to compensate this by going back to consuming foods high in sugar content, thus repeating that whole cycle you actually wanted to keep away from. All this can be avoided by consuming fiber foods that help keep the blood sugar at an optimum level.

Though high fiber diets are bests, a word of caution also needs to be sounded. If there is sudden increase in fiber consumption, it might lead to gastric problems and diarrhea. Thus, it must be included in your diet in a slow, phased manner.

If you are on fiber-high diet, it is advised that drink plenty of fluids that supplement the action of fibers on your digestion process. If this is not done, fibers might result in constipation.
